Look Who We Found at SFIAAFF!
SDAFF Programmer Eric Lallana sees some familiar faces at the 30th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival!
My second trip as a programmer for SDAFF to the 30th Annual San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (SFIAAFF30) was extra rewarding as I reunited with familiar people who have been a presence at recent editions of the San Diego Asian Film Festival. It was nice to recall old memories from the past festivals plus catch up on current projects.
At the Opening Night Gala I spoke with actress L.A. Rennigan, who made a big splash with starring roles in COLMA, THE MUSICAL (2006) and FRUIT FLY (2009). Ms. Rennigan took a break from acting for a couple of years and dabbled in training as a pastry chef. After a couple years the acting bug came back and she currently is doing theatre work. She was there at SFIAAFF30 as a producer for the movie I AM A GHOST by friend and fellow actor/director H.P. Mendoza (COLMA, FRUIT FLY).
The next day I ran into actor David Huynh who starred in popular SDAFF featured movies like BABY (2008), ALL ABOUT DAD (2009), and BANG BANG (2011). His upcoming projects will be with BANG BANG director Byron Q, which include a new documentary!
Finally I had the pleasure of getting together with Patrick Wang who is basically mister everything (actor, director, producer, writer and distributor) for IN THE FAMILY. The winner of Best Narrative Feature and Emerging Filmmaker awards at the most recent edition of SDAFF.
His beloved film was also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award (Best First Feature) and slowly continues to gather praise on the film festival circuit. Patrick says he will continue with self distribution for IN THE FAMILY and has secured engagements both dometically and in international locations such as Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
